Iloilo and It's Churches





Iloilo is one of the provinces of the Philippines and the capital province of Region VI.It is located in
the Western Visayas Region and occupies the southeast portion of Panay Island. Since the colonization of Spaniards, Iloilo has been developed with Spanish architecture styles. These include poular churches.

The following are the list of popular churches in Iloilo.One of the main sights is the Molo Church located 3 kilometers from the city proper. It is a Gothic renaissance church of coral rock.Another is the Jaro Cathedral Church which contains the "miraculous" Our Lady of Candles, which the feast day is celebrated every 2nd of February.The first Baptist Church in Iloilo, the Jaro Evangelical Church which is located in Jaro was established by the Northern Baptist in 1900. One of the largest Baptist congregations in Iloilo, which is the Doane Baptist Church was founded by Northern Baptist and recently dedicated its new sanctuary across the Provincial Capitol.The Miagao Church, which is considered to be the world heritage site, is known for its intricate facade and pyramidal bell towers. The Neoclassic Church, which is the Cabatuan Church is believed to be the largest red brick structure in the Visayas. Lastly, the San Jose Church which is a Byzantine-Neoclasic was known for its collection of priceless Gothic treasures.

It is indeed a very rich history in Iloilo wherein the next generation could be a witness of these memorable sites and be able to share it to others across the country and the world.

Watch Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2010: In the Hall of Fame

Annually, Iloilo City, Philippines is celebrating one of the most popular events in the the world, The Dinagyang Festival. This event is held in commemoration of the feast Sr. Sto Nino. For this year's theme, "Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2010: In the Hall of Fame", recognizes Dinagyang Festival for winning the Best Tourism Event as proclaimed by Association of Tourim Officers in the Philippines(ATOP).


Dinagyang is held every last week of January in one whole week of Kasadyahan (merry making) and Ati-atihan(cultural) parade . The exact date of Dinagyang 2010 is one January 22-24, 2010. The highlights of Dinagyang 2020 event includes the Fluvial Procession, a parade of colorful "bangkas" boats in Iloilo River to the Pier of Iloilo. Afterwhich, the foot parade will start going to Jaro Catholic Chruch where a mass ceremony will be conducted. The main event is the "Ati-Atihan" contest of different cultural groups in colorful costumes. They will be performing in different parts of the city.
